The Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA) invites photographers of all levels—professional and amateur, scientists and citizen scientists, ocean lovers and adventurers—to take part in a special photography competition celebrating the beauty, diversity, and importance of our oceans to celebrate World Ocean Day 2025.

Guardians of the reef: seminar, photo competition, and art auction
Join the Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA) for an inspiring seminar featuring leading marine scientists and conservationists discussing the future of our oceans. The event includes an exclusive auction of diverse artworks, including local pieces and the Ocean Sentinel sculpture. It will conclude with the announcement of the winners of MOUA’s photography competition, celebrating the beauty of our reefs.

Always wanted to see our underwater art but can’t quite make it out to John Brewer Reef? Then join us for this exiting land-based art exhibition in Townsville featuring all the original Ocean Sentinels as miniature sculptures 3D printed in exquisite detail. The sculptures will be accompanied by background information on the sentinels and the artwork as well as a series of photos by the artist Jason deCaires Taylor himself, documenting the stunning coral growth on the Coral Greenhouse - and if you’re lucky you might even meet one of the Ocean Sentinels in the flesh!

Always wanted to see our underwater art but can’t quite make it out to John Brewer Reef?
