The ocean siren reignites
Join us as we celebrate the re-installation of the Ocean Siren sculpture on the Strand with a special community gathering.
We’ll start the evening with a relaxed drink and chat at the Watermark before walking to the Ocean Siren to watch the sunset. Members of the Museum of Underwater Art will give a short presentation about the significance of the Ocean Siren and its recent renewal. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with the community, learn more about this iconic artwork, and appreciate its powerful message on climate change and reef conservation.

Citizen Science Month 2025
Citizen Science Month builds awareness of opportunities for all people to participate in science in meaningful ways. Nobody knows everything but everybody knows something and together, we can help solve local, regional, national and global challenges. Small acts, such as sharing a picture of a fish or a coral from the Great Barrier Reef, can help scientists better understand population changes and help protect this natural wonder. Join this amazing event, become a citizen scientist and explore the Museum of Underwater Art at the same time with its inspirational Ocean Sentinels sculptures honouring famous marine scientists and conservationists!

ReefBlitz 2025
ReefBlitz is an annual event that brings together students, divers, fishers, scientists and conservationists and multiple citizen science programs to help Queensland communities collect a snapshot of information relevant to reef health - join this amazing event and explore the Museum of Underwater Art at the same time!

Coral planting with Dr david Vaughan - World Ocean Day
Come with us on an unforgettable day trip to the Museum of Underwater Art to celebrate World Ocean Week and be part of underwater art in the making as we plant corals with Dr David Vaughan. We plan to plant corals inside the hollow part of his Ocean Sentinel sculpture and around the coral greenhouse - join this amazing event and explore the Museum of Underwater Art at the same time!
There will also be the chance to join MOUA Director - Kerrie Everett- Horrocks with a Discover, Dive and Draw opportunity. This involves a guided dive and underwater drawing experience.

Reefblitz - Join the Sentinels at Magnetic Island
Join us for an unforgettable day of discovery as we delve into the vibrant world of citizen science at Geoffrey Bay. This unique event combines snorkeling and diving with the opportunity to meet the renowned MOUA Ocean Sentinel, Professor Peter Harrison.

Ocean film festival - Townsville screening
Join us as we celebrate amazing footage of our oceans taken above and below the surface. The Museum of Underwater Art is partnering with #Ocean25FilmFest to amplify ocean conservation.

Always wanted to see our underwater art but can’t quite make it out to John Brewer Reef? Then join us for this exiting land-based art exhibition in Townsville featuring all the original Ocean Sentinels as miniature sculptures 3D printed in exquisite detail. The sculptures will be accompanied by background information on the sentinels and the artwork as well as a series of photos by the artist Jason deCaires Taylor himself, documenting the stunning coral growth on the Coral Greenhouse - and if you’re lucky you might even meet one of the Ocean Sentinels in the flesh!

Great Southern Bioblitz 2023
The Great Southern BioBlitz is an international period of intense biological surveying in an attempt to record all the living species within several designated areas across the southern hemisphere. The purpose of this event is to highlight both the immense biodiversity spread across the Southern Hemisphere as well as to engage the public in science and nature learning using the citizen science platform iNaturalist.
